Apple is gearing up to introduce a new iPhone variant this year to replace the iPhone 16 Plus. This particular model is rumored to arrive as iPhone 17 Air, but this isn’t final. The name could be different, but the principle of the device will be the same – It arrives as a super sleek device. The iPhone 17 Air will be thinner than other iPhone models. Previously, it was rumored to be a separate launch, but with September nearing, it is arriving along with the regular iPhone launch. The device is super thin, and we all know that, but the extra sleekness will come at a cost; Apple will sacrifice the battery capacity to achieve its goal. A new leaked image shows that the battery will be really thin when compared to a regular battery.

The iPhone 17 Air Battery is Apple’s Thinnest Battery To Date

Thanks to a Korean blog, Naver, we got the first glimpse of a real iPhone 17 Air battery. It has the familiar iPhone L-shaped battery encased in a steel sheet like the iPhone 17 Pro’s battery. However, this one is ridiculously thin.

According to a new report, the iPhone 17 Air battery is just 2.49mm thick. For comparison, this is about three credit cards stacked on top of each other. It’s ridiculously thin, especially when you think it’s a battery keeping a modern smartphone alive.

    iPhone 17 Air

The battery is barely noticeable when compared side by side to the iPhone 17 Pro battery. As per the reports, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air will be just 5.5 mm thick, one of the thinnest smartphones in the market, and Apple’s thinnest to date. This pursuit of sleekness will sacrifice the capacity. The 17 Air will have just 2,900 mAh capacity. It’s a far cry from the 4,674 mAh found within the iPhone 16 Plus.

The 17 Air Won’t Be A King in Battery Life

The iPhones aren’t known for big batteries or for providing a long endurance without charging. However, Apple made significant improvements in the past years, especially with the Plus and Pro Max models. In this regard, the iPhone 17 Air will go backwards with a small battery. It will certainly need a midday charge for hardcore users. Anyway, the battery is better than previous rumors suggesting something in the 2500mAh range. Considering the thickness, 2,900mAh is still an interesting achievement.
