There is no fabric in the bra Kylie Jenner wore on the Victoria’s Secret runway on Sunday night. None. What looked like lingerie under the lights at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City was a mesh of roughly 3,218 separately cast pieces of 18-karat gold, hinged together and carrying 4,410 natural diamonds. At its center sat a 75.54-carat radiant-cut Fancy Vivid yellow diamond. The whole thing weighs just under four pounds, took 15 craftspeople more than 1,000 hours to build, and carries a reported value of $50 million.

That price is the headline, and it makes this the most expensive Fantasy Bra ever by a wide margin: Vogue puts it about $35 million above the previous record, the $15 million Red Hot Fantasy Bra from 2000. The more interesting story is mechanical. How do you turn more than 1,373 carats of rock and a kilo and a half of metal into something that bends, breathes and survives a catwalk? Jacob & Co., the New York jeweler that built it, has now explained a surprising amount of that process.

    The short version

    • Kylie Jenner, 29, made her Victoria’s Secret runway debut on October 18, 2026, wearing the first Fantasy Bra shown since 2018.
    • Built by Jacob Arabo’s Jacob & Co., it has 4,410 natural diamonds totaling 1,373.39 carats around a 75.54-carat Fancy Vivid yellow center stone.
    • It is made only of gold and diamonds: about 3,218 parts, designed in CAD and cast in 18k white gold with the lost-wax method, then linked so the piece moves like fabric.
    • At a reported $50 million, it beats the old record, Gisele Bündchen’s $15 million Red Hot bra from 2000, by $35 million.
    • The valuation comes from the brand and the jeweler, not an independent appraisal.

A bra that is really a piece of high jewelry

The Fantasy Bra is back after an eight-year break. Victoria’s Secret dropped its televised show in 2019, and when the event returned in 2024 and 2025 the bra stayed in the vault. Adam Selman, the brand’s chief creative officer, told Vogue that fans asked for it more than almost anything else after last year’s show. “So we thought, OK, how do we do this in a really fun, excessive way? Because that’s what it is: a truly excessive piece of jewelry and artistry. It’s almost museum quality.”

Selman also explained why he picked Jenner. “Kylie really extends beyond fashion, beyond culture, beyond TV, beyond one singular thing,” he told Vogue. Her roughly 380 million Instagram followers are exactly the reach a showpiece like this is built for.

For the build, Selman went to Jacob Arabo, the founder of Jacob & Co., who has made pieces for Madonna, Rihanna and Elton John. Arabo’s brief to himself was blunt. “My vision was to create a piece of high jewelry that could be worn as a bra. No fabric, only gold and diamonds,” he told Vogue. Earlier Fantasy Bras often set stones on a textile or satin base. This one has no soft layer at all, so the metal has to do the job that elastic and cotton usually do.

How you make metal behave like fabric

Jacob & Co. walked Forbes through the process, and it reads like a hardware project. After a first sketch, the team built a full-scale model from flexible chipboard, cutting and shaping each section by hand and checking it on a bust form. That cardboard prototype then became a computer-aided design (CAD) model, which split the bra into about 3,218 individual components.

Each component was cast in 18-karat white gold using the lost-wax method. Wax patterns of every part are packed in investment, a plaster-like material, under vacuum, then heated in a kiln until the wax burns out and leaves a hollow mold. Molten gold is poured in, and the rough castings are cleaned, filed and pre-polished by hand. Jacob & Co. did not say how its wax patterns were made, but in modern workshops CAD files usually become wax or castable resin patterns on high-resolution resin machines, a close cousin of the printers in our roundup of the best FDM and resin 3D printers.

The flexibility comes from articulation, not from bending metal. The design borrows from Jacob & Co.’s Rare Touch jewelry line, which uses articulated precious metal structures that move with the body. Every strand of the fringe is a chain of individually cast settings linked so each can swing freely. Think chain mail, not a cup. The framing bars under the cups have tapered, knife-edge profiles so they sit against the skin without digging in, and the white gold cups curve inward toward the center to copy the shape of a normal bra.

Fit was the hard part. “The biggest challenge was making sure the bra was comfortable to wear while keeping true to the design,” Arabo told Vogue. “Getting the right fit and making sure it could move naturally with the body was not easy.” The team built it from Jenner’s exact measurements and kept adjusting it through fittings, because, as Arabo put it, “what looks good on paper doesn’t always work the same way on the body.”

Four settings, chosen by where the body moves

The stone setting is where the engineering gets specific. According to Jacob & Co., the bra holds 91 large white diamonds totaling 405.06 carats, ranging from 5.01 to 18.59 carats each, graded E to F in color and VVS2 to VS1 in clarity. Those come in six shapes: the house’s proprietary Angel-Cut, pear, round brilliant, heart, oval and marquise. Vogue counts seven cuts once the radiant center is included.

    • Round-prong and eagle-claw settings hold the big stones. Thin metal claws grip the girdle of each diamond, keeping visible metal to a minimum and letting light enter from many angles, which is what makes a large stone sparkle.
    • Bezel settings, where a rim of metal wraps the entire edge of the stone, are used in the zones that move the most. A bezel is less dazzling but far more secure, and it protects the stone’s edge from knocks.
    • Pavé fills the gaps: small diamonds set close together, each held by tiny beads of metal, so the surface reads as solid sparkle.

Weight drove the whole structure. Jacob & Co. says the yellow diamond’s weight, depth and position on the body dictated everything around it, from its setting and support frame to how the other stones were distributed. Some quick math shows why. A carat is 0.2 grams, so the 1,373.39 carats of diamonds weigh about 275 grams. With the bra coming in just under four pounds, or roughly 1.8 kilograms, the large majority of the mass is gold. Spreading that load so it does not hang from a few links or press into one spot is the classic wearable problem, with far pricier parts.

Why a 75.54-carat vivid yellow diamond is so rare

The centerpiece is actually three stones: the 75.54-carat yellow diamond flanked by two round brilliant white diamonds totaling 11.85 carats. The yellow stone’s grade, Fancy Vivid, comes from the Gemological Institute of America’s colored diamond scale. Instead of the D-to-Z letters used for white diamonds, GIA describes colored stones with terms that run from Faint and Fancy Light up through Fancy, Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid, plus Fancy Deep and Fancy Dark for darker tones. Fancy Vivid means strong, saturated color at a light-to-medium tone, the grade most sought after for yellows.

The color itself is chemistry. Yellow diamonds owe their hue to nitrogen atoms trapped in the carbon lattice as the crystal formed deep underground. Most natural diamonds contain nitrogen in clumped, or aggregated, form, which can produce a pale yellow tint. Stones where the nitrogen sits as isolated single atoms, called Type Ib, can show the deep “canary” yellow that reaches Fancy Intense or Fancy Vivid, according to research published in GIA’s journal Gems & Gemology. The auction house Phillips puts Type Ib stones at roughly 0.1 percent of natural diamonds. Jacob & Co. has not said which type its stone is, so that figure is context, not a claim about this diamond.

The radiant cut matters too. It combines a rectangular outline with trimmed corners and a brilliant-style facet pattern, and cutters often choose it for fancy yellows because the extra facets help concentrate and intensify color.

Neither Victoria’s Secret nor Jacob & Co. has shared how the piece is insured or guarded. History suggests it may not stay intact: according to The Wall Street Journal, as compiled on Wikipedia, unsold Fantasy Bras were usually dismantled after about a year.

Thirty years of Fantasy Bras, by the numbers

The tradition began in 1996 with Claudia Schiffer’s $1 million Million Dollar Miracle Bra, which appeared in the catalog rather than on a runway. Prices climbed fast. Heidi Klum’s Millennium Bra hit $10 million in 1999, and Gisele Bündchen’s Red Hot Fantasy Bra reached $15 million in 2000, a figure Guinness World Records recognized as the most expensive lingerie ever made. In 2001 Klum became the first model to wear a Fantasy Bra in a televised show, wearing Mouawad’s $12.5 million Heavenly Star, built around a 90-carat D-flawless emerald-cut diamond.

Lebanese jeweler Mouawad went on to make 11 Fantasy Bras, while Hearts On Fire, Damiani, London Jewelers, Martin Katz and designer Eddie Borgo contributed others. After 2005 values mostly drifted down, to $2 million to $3 million in the 2010s, with a $10 million exception for Candice Swanepoel’s Royal Fantasy Bra in 2013. The last one, Elsa Hosk’s 2018 Dream Angels bra by Atelier Swarovski, was valued at $1 million and used about 2,100 lab-grown Swarovski Created Diamonds weighing roughly 71 carats, set in sterling silver. Jenner’s bra swings the other way: natural stones, solid gold, and fifty times the value.

Important caveat: Fantasy Bra prices have always been the brand’s and the jeweler’s own figures, not independent appraisals or sale prices, and they are not adjusted for inflation. The $50 million number is a stated value for a marketing showpiece. Diamond counts also vary slightly by source: Vogue says 4,410 diamonds, while Jacob & Co. describes the 75.54-carat center plus 4,409 others.

What it means beyond the runway

Nobody will buy this bra at a mall, but the methods behind it shape the jewelry most Americans do buy. CAD design, printed or milled wax patterns and lost-wax casting are now routine in mid-market workshops, which is why intricate, articulated designs cost far less to make than they once did.

    • Movement is the real luxury. The hardest problem here was not sourcing diamonds but making 1.8 kilograms of rigid parts flex. Look at the links and hinges on any piece you buy: free movement without gaps that snag is a sign of good work.
    • Setting choice is a tradeoff. Prongs show off a stone; bezels protect it. Jacob & Co. used bezels where the body moves most. For an everyday ring or bracelet, that is a sensible rule.
    • Ask for the grading report. For any colored diamond, a GIA report states the color grade, such as Fancy Vivid, and whether the color is natural or treated. Lab-grown yellow diamonds can now reach Fancy Vivid too, as GIA has documented, so origin matters for price.

Arabo summed up his goal to Forbes in a sentence: “For me, it had to be about the diamonds, the light and the movement.” Stripped of the celebrity and the wings, that is a fair description of an engineering spec. The price got the attention. The 3,218 parts that let it walk are the achievement.
