To link Instagram to a Facebook Page, open the Instagram app, go to Edit profile, tap Page under your public business information, and choose the Page you manage; or go to your Page’s settings on Facebook, open Linked accounts, and connect Instagram from there. Either route needs a professional (business or creator) Instagram account and admin level access to the Page. Once linked, you can cross post, run ads on both platforms from one ad account, and answer Instagram DMs from the Page’s inbox in Meta Business Suite.
Meta has renamed and moved these settings several times, and there are now two different kinds of connection that people confuse. The first is the Page link, which ties a professional Instagram account to a Facebook Page for business tools. The second is Accounts Center, which ties an Instagram account to a personal Facebook profile for login and sharing. This guide walks through all three official ways to create the Page link, what the link unlocks, how to undo it, and the errors that stop the Connect button from working. If you are new to the platform, start with our guide to using Instagram and come back here once you have a professional account.
What you need before you start
Three conditions must be true or the link will fail silently or show a grayed out button.
| Requirement | Where to check | How to fix |
|---|---|---|
| Professional Instagram account (Business or Creator) | Instagram > Settings and activity > Account type and tools | Tap Switch to professional account and follow the prompts |
| Full control of the Facebook Page | Page > Settings > Page access | Ask an existing admin to grant you Facebook access with full control |
| The Instagram account is not already linked to another Page | Instagram > Edit profile > Page | Disconnect the old Page first; one Instagram account links to one Page |
| Logged into the right Facebook profile | Facebook profile switcher (top right) | Switch to the personal profile that holds Page access, not the Page itself |
Method 1: Link from the Instagram app
This is the fastest route if you already use Instagram on your phone and the Page is one you administer.
- Open Instagram and go to your profile tab.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Scroll to the public business information section and tap Page. On older builds this reads Connect or create.
- Sign in to Facebook if prompted. Use the personal profile that has access to the Page.
- Pick the Page from the list, or tap Create a new Facebook Page if you do not have one yet.
- Tap Done. The Page name now appears under Page on the Edit profile screen.
If the Page you expect is missing from the list, you are almost certainly logged into the wrong Facebook profile, or your role on the Page is task based rather than full control. Both cases are covered in troubleshooting below.
Method 2: Link from the Facebook Page
Use this when you manage the Page from a desktop browser or when the Instagram account belongs to someone else who will type their password in.
- On Facebook, switch into the Page using the profile switcher, or open it from the Pages menu on the left.
- Click the Page’s profile picture, then Settings and privacy > Settings.
- In the left column choose Linked accounts.
- Select Instagram and click Connect account.
- Decide whether to allow Instagram messages in the Page inbox. Leave this on if you want one inbox in Meta Business Suite.
- Enter the Instagram username and password and confirm.
When it works, the Linked accounts screen shows the Instagram handle with a Disconnect button next to it. While you are in Page settings, it is a good moment to tidy the Page itself; see how to change the username on a Facebook Page if the vanity URL does not match your Instagram handle.
Method 3: Link inside Meta Business Suite or a business portfolio
Agencies and teams should link at the portfolio level so the connection survives staff changes.
- Go to business.facebook.com and open Settings from the left sidebar (the gear icon).
- Under Accounts, choose Instagram accounts, then click Add.
- Sign in to the Instagram account. It is added to the portfolio as an asset.
- Still in Settings, open Pages, select your Page, and use the connected assets panel to associate the Instagram account with that Page.
Meta’s own reference for these steps is the Connect or disconnect your professional Instagram account and a Facebook Page article in the Business Help Center.
What linking actually enables
The Page link is the switch behind most of Meta’s business features, so it is worth knowing what turns on.
- Cross posting. In Meta Business Suite and in the Instagram composer you can publish one post, story or reel to both destinations. Instagram also gains a Share to Facebook toggle on the final screen of the composer.
- Unified inbox. Instagram DMs, comments, Facebook messages and Page comments land in one Business Suite inbox with assignment and labels.
- Ads. Ads Manager can place a single campaign on Facebook and Instagram, use your real Instagram handle as the ad identity, and boost existing Instagram posts. Our walkthrough on setting up a Facebook ad campaign assumes this link exists.
- Insights. Business Suite shows combined reach and follower trends across both accounts.
- Shopping. Instagram Shopping and Facebook Shops share one catalog and one Commerce Manager setup.
Accounts Center and personal profile sharing
Accounts Center is a different system. It groups your Instagram account with your personal Facebook profile for login, ad preferences and automatic sharing between personal profiles. To reach it in Instagram, open Settings and activity, tap Accounts Center at the top, and choose Sharing across profiles. There you can add the Facebook account and choose whether posts, stories and reels auto share.
Accounts Center will not link a Page. If someone tells you to connect “in Accounts Center” and your goal is a business Page, use Method 1 or 2 instead.
How to unlink Instagram from a Facebook Page
Disconnecting is safe. No posts are deleted on either side, though scheduled cross posts and any ads that use the Instagram identity will stop.
From Instagram: Profile > Edit profile > Page > Disconnect (or Unlink), then confirm. From Facebook: Page > Settings > Linked accounts > Instagram > Disconnect. From Business Suite: Settings > Accounts > Instagram accounts, select the account and remove it from the Page or from the portfolio.
Troubleshooting
The Connect button is gray or does nothing
Almost always a permissions problem. Confirm in Page > Settings > Page access that your personal profile has Facebook access with full control, not just task access. Confirm the Instagram account is professional. Then log out of Facebook in every browser tab and retry from the Instagram app, where the login prompt is cleaner.
My Page is not in the list
You are signed into a different Facebook profile than the one that holds Page access, or the Page is in a business portfolio that you can see but do not have Page access on. Check the profile switcher on Facebook, then check the Page access list.
“This Instagram account is already connected to a Page”
An Instagram account can link to one Page at a time. Open Instagram > Edit profile > Page to see which Page currently holds it, disconnect there, then link to the new Page.
Cross posting works but Instagram messages do not reach the Page inbox
During Method 2 there is a checkbox for allowing Instagram messages in the inbox. If it was left off, go to Page > Settings > Linked accounts > Instagram and turn on message access. Also check Instagram > Settings and activity > Messages and story replies > Message controls, where you can allow connected tools to access messages.
Ads Manager still shows a placeholder Instagram identity
The ad account must also be in the same business portfolio as the Page and the Instagram account. In Business Suite Settings, open Ad accounts and check that the Instagram account is listed as a connected asset. Without that, ads run under a Page backed identity instead of your handle.
Frequently asked questions
Can a personal Instagram account link to a Facebook Page?
No. Only professional accounts (Business or Creator) can link to a Page. Switching is free, takes under a minute in Settings and activity > Account type and tools, and can be reversed later. Personal accounts can only be added to Accounts Center for sharing to a personal Facebook profile.
Can one Facebook Page link to more than one Instagram account?
Not through the standard Page link. Each Page holds one Instagram account and each Instagram account belongs to one Page. Businesses that run several Instagram accounts usually create one Page per account, or keep secondary accounts inside a business portfolio without a Page link.
Will linking change what my followers see?
No. Linking adds nothing visible on either profile. Followers only notice a change if you turn on automatic sharing, in which case your Instagram posts start appearing on the Page. The Page name may appear in the Instagram profile editor, but it is not shown publicly.
Does the link give Facebook admins control of my Instagram?
Partly. Anyone with full control of the Page can reply to Instagram messages and comments from the Business Suite inbox, publish to the Instagram account through Business Suite, and view insights. They cannot change the Instagram password or delete the account. Review Page access before linking a personal brand account.
Why does Meta keep asking me to log in during linking?
The linking flow authenticates both sides, and browser sessions for Facebook and Instagram are separate. Adding both accounts to the same Accounts Center usually removes the extra prompt. If the loop never ends, clear cookies for facebook.com and instagram.com and complete the link from the Instagram app instead.
The bottom line
Linking Instagram to a Facebook Page is a two minute job once the prerequisites are in place: a professional Instagram account, full control of the Page, and the right Facebook profile signed in. Method 1 from the Instagram app is the least error prone for individuals; Method 3 in Business Suite is the right choice for teams and agencies.
After linking, spend a few minutes in Meta Business Suite turning on the unified inbox and testing a cross post, and give the Page a fresh look with a matching Facebook cover photo. That is where the real payoff of the connection lives.
