Apple’s annual September event is almost here, and with it comes the usual buzz around the next iPhone lineup. This time, it’s the iPhone 17 series taking the stage. But beyond the expected upgrades and design tweaks, there’s talk of something buyers might not be thrilled about: higher prices, at least for the Pro models.

The New iPhone 17 Pro Models Might Be Fancier, But Also Costlier

Recent reports from analysts who track Apple’s supply chain suggest a shift in pricing for the higher-end variants. The iPhone 17 Pro could start at $1,049. Then, the larger Pro Max may see a jump to $1,249. That marks the first significant price increase in the United States for Pro models since 2019.

The standard iPhone 17, however, is expected to hold steady at $799. Apple wants to keep this model accessible for most buyers, even though it has to make some sacrifices in its profit. Finally, there is also a rumored iPhone 17 Slim. The device has been floating in the rumor mill for the last year. Firstly, it was supposed to come as the iPhone 17 Air. It was rumored to launch earlier than the regular iPhone series, but now, Apple is bringing the variant with the new iPhones. The Slim is likely taking the place of the iPhone 16 Plus, which could launch at around $949.

The Reasons Behind The Price Hike

In case you’re wondering what is driving the possible increase, there is a mix of factors in play. Component costs have been on the rise, and new import tariffs are adding pressure, particularly for devices not assembled in the U.S. Apple previously managed to absorb these increases with the iPhone 16 series, but that buffer may have run its course.

To justify the price bump, Apple is expected to introduce some hardware upgrades. The Pro models may feature a new rear camera module, a higher-resolution 24MP front camera, and a return to aluminum frames — a design choice that could further distinguish them from the base models. If these details prove accurate, the upcoming iPhones won’t just bring new features but also a new price.

That said, if you’re looking at the top-tier options, it’s time to save some cash.
