Every spring, the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation of the United States devote a week to protected places in the country. In honor of the next such event, Google added a virtual tour of 31 national parks in the United States to the Earth Planet service .

Now users can walk around such reserves as Acadia , Shenandoah , Joshua Three and admire, albeit remotely, the beauty and sights of these places.

For starters, Google offers to look at the mountains of pink granite in Acadia. Then head west to explore the ancient pueblo dwellings in Mesa Verde National Park , Colorado. And end the walk with the North Window Arch in Arches Park , Utah.

Recall that last summer a tool for measuring distances and areas appeared in Google Earth .
