    GTA 6 Is a 210GB Download on PS5, and Pre-Load Reportedly Starts November 12

Grand Theft Auto VI is three weeks away, and the first hard number about what it will do to your console has landed. According to a tracker that reads PlayStation Store listings, the PS5 version is a 210GB download. That is a lot of space for a game that, at launch, is reportedly only the single-player experience, and it is already making the rounds as a reason to go clear out your library.

Before anyone starts deleting things in a panic, it helps to separate what is solid from what is not. The figure is unofficial, Rockstar has not confirmed it, and some details, like Xbox sizes and day-one patches, are still unknown. Here is everything that is actually on the table.

    The short version

    • Download size: 210GB on PS5, per PlayStation Game Size
    • Pre-load: reportedly opens November 12, one week before launch
    • Launch: November 19 at midnight local time, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
    • Price: $79.99 for the Standard Edition
    • Still unknown: the Xbox download size, and whether 210GB includes a day-one patch
    • PC: planned for a later date, with no size or timing announced

Where the 210GB number comes from

The figure comes from PlayStation Game Size, an account on X that tracks backend data from the PlayStation Store. It has a decent record of posting sizes before release, which is why outlets like ComicBook, Notebookcheck and DualShockers picked it up quickly. Its post lists the Standard Edition at $79.99, a pre-load date of November 12 and a release date of November 19.

It is not an announcement from Rockstar or Sony, so treat it as a strong lead rather than a spec sheet. Eurogamer has also pointed out that it is unclear whether the 210GB already includes a day-one patch. If it does not, the real total on launch morning could be higher.

    How big is 210GB, really?

Big, but not unprecedented. Rockstar’s own Red Dead Redemption 2 sits around 150GB on PC, and Call of Duty installs have crossed 200GB with all their modes. What stands out here is that GTA 6 reaches that range as a single-player-first release, with no multiplayer mode reported at launch. Notebookcheck notes it is roughly a quarter of the usable space on a standard PS5.

    Install size comparison

Approximate sizes. Real installs vary by platform and patch level. GTA 6 figure is the unofficial PS5 number.

Grand Theft Auto VI (PS5)210 GB
Red Dead Redemption 2 (PC)~150 GB
Grand Theft Auto V (PC)~95 GB
    Cyberpunk 2077 (PC)~70 GB

Will it fit on your console?

This is where the number turns into a real decision. Consoles never give you the full advertised capacity, because the system software takes a chunk. The table below uses typical usable space, so your own free space may differ.

The Series S is the awkward one. It has the smallest drive of the current group, and an Xbox listing size has not been confirmed, so that last row is a what-if. The Xbox Store only shows a placeholder figure for now. If you play on a Series S, this is the console most likely to force some cleanup.

    Why pre-load matters this time

A one-week pre-load window is the quiet hero of this story. Anyone who buys the game early can start the 210GB download on November 12 and be ready to play the moment the clock hits midnight on the 19th. If you are on a slower connection, it is worth starting that same day. At 100 Mbps, 210GB takes roughly five hours of uninterrupted downloading. At 25 Mbps, you are looking at more than 18 hours.

    A simple prep checklist

    • Check your free space now, not on launch week
    • Move or delete the games you have not touched in months
    • If you use an external drive, remember PS5 games usually need internal or compatible M.2 storage to run
    • Plan for extra room in case a day-one patch is added on top

The storage squeeze and the wider GTA 6 story

Storage is only one pressure point. Console hardware has been getting more expensive, and our look at why a used PS5 Pro now costs more than a new one shows how much demand this launch is already creating. A 2TB drive suddenly looks like a sensible buy for a lot of players.

Platform politics are also heating up. If you missed it, we covered how Xbox denied an exclusive GTA 6 streaming deal, which matters if you were hoping to skip the download entirely. And Rockstar is turning the real city into part of the marketing, as we explained when Miami approved Vice City banners downtown.

    • Edge 430 on October 29: a 16-page cover feature with Rockstar interviews and new screenshots, free to read online on GamesRadar+.
    • An official size from Rockstar: the real number, patch included, would settle the debate.
    • Xbox store listing: a confirmed Series X|S size will matter a lot for Series S owners.
    • PC details: no size or date yet, and PC installs often run larger than consoles.

    My take

I do not find 210GB shocking. Rockstar games have always been enormous, and this one is meant to be its most ambitious world yet. What interests me more is the practical side: a launch with a one week pre-load and a midnight unlock only works if people have the room ready. The players who treat this like a house move, clearing space early, will have the smoothest launch.

If you are on a base PS5, my advice is simple. Decide this week what you are willing to uninstall, and consider a larger drive if you plan to keep other big games around. Until Rockstar publishes its own number, treat 210GB as the working figure and leave a little headroom.
