European retailer listings put the Galaxy A17 4G at 289.90 euros and the Galaxy A17 5G at 319.90 euros, both for the 8 GB and 256 GB configuration. That is a thirty euro gap for 5G, an AMOLED panel on both, and a processor swap that is the only meaningful difference between them. Here is what the listings show, what the price actually buys, and the questions buyers keep asking before they order.

Quick answer: Galaxy A17 4G is listed at 289.90 euros in black, grey and light blue. Galaxy A17 5G is listed at 319.90 euros in black, blue and grey. Both are 8 GB with 256 GB of storage, both use a 6.7 inch Super AMOLED FHD+ screen and a 5,000 mAh battery with 25 W charging, and both ship on Android 15 with One UI 7. The 5G model runs an Exynos chip, the 4G model a MediaTek Helio G99.

Lower memory and storage variants are expected to follow at lower prices, which is the usual pattern for the A series. The listings that appeared first are the higher configuration, so treat these figures as the ceiling rather than the entry point. Prices were spotted by GSMArena and SamMobile.

    What the two models share

Almost everything. That is the point of the pairing, and it is what makes the decision simple.

Note: Regional listings for the A17 5G have not been perfectly consistent on the exact Exynos model number or the panel’s peak refresh rate, with some markets showing different figures from others. Samsung frequently ships regional variants of A series phones, so confirm the model number on the box or the retailer’s own specification sheet before ordering.

Is 5G worth thirty euros here?

For most buyers on a contract in a well covered European city, yes, and not really because of speed. A 4G only phone bought in 2026 is a phone you will still be using when carriers start reallocating spectrum away from older networks. Thirty euros is cheap insurance on a device you plan to keep for years.

The case for the 4G model is narrower but real. The Helio G99 is a well understood, efficient chip with a good record in this price bracket, and if you are buying for a child, a second device or a market where 5G coverage is thin, the saving is genuine and nothing else changes.

Tip: Watch the storage tier rather than the network. Paying thirty euros for 5G is sensible. Paying a similar amount to go from 128 GB to 256 GB matters less on a phone with a microSD slot, and the A series has historically kept one. Check the listing for your market before assuming either way.

Where it sits against the rest of the A series

At roughly 290 to 320 euros the A17 lands below the A36 and well below the A56, and its job is to bring an AMOLED screen, a 50 MP stabilised main camera and Samsung’s long software support down to a price where most of the competition still ships an LCD. That combination is what has made this exact slot in Samsung’s line up the best selling Android tier in Europe for years. If the camera is your priority, our ranking of the best budget Samsung camera phones covers the alternatives.

Samsung’s recent A series commitment has been six generations of Android upgrades and six years of security patches, which is the strongest argument for buying one of these over a cheaper phone from a smaller brand. A budget phone that stops receiving patches after two years is not cheap, it is temporary.

Warning: Retailer listings that appear before an official announcement are accurate on price far more often than they are accurate on every specification. Prices from these listings have held up well historically. Individual spec lines, particularly chipset variants and refresh rates, have not.

What the price does not buy

Being clear about the omissions is more useful than listing the features again. At this level Samsung makes predictable cuts, and none of them are secrets.

Charging speed stays at 25 W. That is a full charge in well over an hour. Rivals from Chinese brands routinely offer double or triple that at the same price, and it is the single biggest specification gap in this bracket.

The ultrawide and macro cameras are makeweights. A 5 MP ultrawide and a 2 MP macro exist to put the number three on the box. The 50 MP main sensor with stabilisation is the camera, and it is a good one for the money.

There is no wireless charging and no telephoto. Neither has appeared in this tier and neither is coming.

Performance is mid range and behaves like it. Both chips run One UI comfortably and handle mainstream games at reduced settings. Neither is a gaming phone, and heavy multitasking will show the difference against a flagship.

How it stacks up against rivals

Around 300 euros is the most crowded price point in Europe, and the competition tends to win on paper. Motorola, Xiaomi and Nothing all offer faster charging and often a higher refresh rate for similar money. What they rarely match is the combination Samsung leans on here: an AMOLED panel, a stabilised main camera, a software experience most buyers already know, and an update commitment measured in years rather than months.

If you replace your phone every two years, buy on specifications and one of the rivals will probably serve you better. If you keep a phone until it stops receiving patches, the update policy is worth more than the charging speed, and that is the argument the A series has been quietly winning for a decade.

What to check before you buy

The exact model number. A17 5G units carry a different code from the 4G ones, and regional variants differ. It is printed on the box and in Settings, About phone.

What is in the box. Samsung has not included a charger with A series phones sold in Europe for several years. Assume a cable and no power adapter unless the listing says otherwise. Battery life is the other thing worth comparing, and we rank it in our guide to Samsung phones with the best battery life.

The storage tier on offer. The first listings are the 256 GB models. If a 128 GB version appears later at a lower price, it is the same phone.

Carrier versus open market. Operator versions occasionally carry extra preinstalled software and slower update delivery than the unlocked model.

    Frequently asked questions

How much is the Samsung Galaxy A17 in euros?

European listings show 289.90 euros for the A17 4G and 319.90 euros for the A17 5G, both with 8 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage. Lower configurations are expected to arrive at lower prices, and street prices typically drop within a few months of launch.

Does the Samsung A17 come with a charger in the EU?

Almost certainly not. Samsung stopped including a power adapter with Galaxy A series phones sold in Europe several years ago, and the box normally contains the phone, a USB cable and documentation. Any 25 W USB Power Delivery charger will run it at full speed.

What is the difference between the Galaxy A17 4G and 5G?

The processor and the network. The 4G model uses a MediaTek Helio G99 and the 5G model an Exynos chip with 5G support. Screen, battery, charging, cameras, memory, storage and software are the same, so the decision is really about whether you want 5G.

Does the Galaxy A17 have an AMOLED screen?

Yes. Both models are listed with a 6.7 inch Super AMOLED panel at FHD+ resolution, which is unusual at this price and one of the main reasons the A series outsells cheaper rivals with LCD screens.

How long will the Galaxy A17 get updates?

Samsung’s recent policy for the A series has been six generations of Android upgrades and six years of security updates, which is considerably longer than most phones at this price. Check Samsung’s own product page for your market to confirm the commitment on the exact model you buy.

    The bottom line

289.90 euros for the 4G model and 319.90 euros for the 5G model buys an AMOLED screen, a stabilised 50 MP camera, a 5,000 mAh battery and years of guaranteed updates. The thirty euro step up to 5G is the easy call for anyone keeping the phone more than a couple of years. The harder question, as always with the A series, is whether to wait a few months for the price to settle, because it always does. Whichever you buy, run through the ten One UI settings worth changing first before you start using it.
