For five years, RedMagic phones had an easy sales pitch: the fastest Qualcomm chip of the year, a real cooling fan, and a price that undercut every mainstream flagship by hundreds of dollars. The RedMagic 12 Pro keeps the first two parts of that pitch. The third is where things get complicated.

RedMagic confirmed global pricing on November 3. The 12 Pro starts at $899 for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which is $250 more than the RedMagic 11 Pro cost a year ago and $50 more than the 11S Pro that arrived only in June. TechRadar’s review, the first full one from a major outlet, calls it “the most capable gaming phone on the market” and in the same breath says last year’s model “remains a much better buy while stocks last.”

We went through that review, RedMagic’s launch details and the Chinese spec sheet for the RedMagic 12 Pro+ to work out what the extra money buys, what the global version quietly loses, and who should still pre-order.

Quick answerBuy the RedMagic 12 Pro if you play demanding games for hours and want the biggest battery and highest refresh rate you can get in a flagship-class Android phone. Skip it if you care about cameras or plan to keep your phone more than three years: US buyers get only two Android upgrades and three years of security patches. If you can still find a RedMagic 11 Pro at its old $649 price, it is the smarter deal. Open sales start November 18.

RedMagic 12 Pro price and release date

RedMagic lists its global price in US dollars, and the euro price is the same number. Early Bird vouchers run from November 12 to 17, Early Bird buyers can order a day early on November 17, and open sales begin on November 18 in the US, UK, Europe and Australia. Early Bird buyers also get an 80W charger thrown in, which matters because there is no charger in the box.

The timing tells the story. Memory prices have climbed all year, and almost every phone maker has passed that on. RedMagic did it twice in twelve months.

On paper, this is a solid generational jump. The screen is faster and brighter, the battery is 12% larger, and the phone is slightly lighter and thinner. The rear camera setup actually shrank, losing the old 2MP macro lens that nobody will miss.

iPhone Duo vs iPhone Air: Open, the Duo Is Thinner. Closed, It Is Twice as Thick.

The global version is not quite the phone China got

Here is the detail that most launch coverage glossed over. In China, this phone launched in October as the RedMagic 12 Pro+, starting at 6,999 yuan for the same 12GB and 256GB setup. That version charges at 120W over a cable. The global RedMagic 12 Pro tops out at 80W wired. Wireless charging is 80W on both.

Pre-launch reports also pointed to different shoulder trigger hardware between the two markets. The global model lists 520Hz capacitive triggers. Neither difference is a dealbreaker, but it is the kind of quiet regional downgrade we keep seeing this year. Oppo did something similar when its Find X10 Pro Max shipped to Europe with a much smaller battery than the one reviewers praised in China.

In practice, 80W still fills this battery reasonably fast. TechRadar measured 50% in about 30 minutes and a full charge in roughly 72 minutes using a Nubia 80W adapter. With 120W, you would shave a meaningful chunk off that full charge.

Performance: faster peaks, weaker stamina under load

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is the fastest Android chip you can buy right now, and the RedMagic 12 Pro is one of the first phones to ship with it. Yet the CPU gains are small. In Geekbench 6, the 12 Pro barely edges out the 11 Pro and 11S Pro. The GPU is a different story, scoring 16% to 28% higher depending on the test, which is exactly where a gaming phone needs the help.

The surprise came in sustained testing. Despite a faster fan, a bigger vapor chamber and a liquid cooling loop that now wraps around more of the chassis, the 12 Pro posted a lower stability score than its predecessor in 3DMark’s 20-minute Wild Life Extreme stress test.

RedMagic 12 Pro performance against the 11 Pro GPU benchmark gain of 16 to 28 percent over the RedMagic 11 Pro. 3DMark Wild Life Extreme stress test stability: RedMagic 12 Pro 54 percent, RedMagic 11 Pro 66 percent. This could be an early driver issue that a firmware update fixes. It could also mean the new chip simply runs hotter at its peak than the cooling can hold. Either way, real games are not a problem: Wuthering Waves ran smoothly at high settings in testing. If you want more context on how this phone stacks up against its rivals, our ranking of the best gaming phones of 2026 covers sustained performance in more detail.

Where the 12 Pro clearly wins

    • Battery life. A light day with 3 hours 40 minutes of screen time left 72% in the tank. Two to three days of normal use is realistic.
    • The screen. No notch and no punch hole, 185Hz and 1,900 nits. Few phones give you a cleaner view for games and video.
    • Controls. Capacitive shoulder triggers plus a press-and-hold Magic Key that can be remapped to a camera or flashlight shortcut.
    • Speakers. New Dolby Atmos stereo speakers sound fuller and more balanced than before.

The catches: cameras, water resistance and updates

Cameras that do not match the price

The 50MP OmniVision OV50J main sensor takes fine daylight shots, but nothing better than a midrange phone such as the Pixel 10a. Night shots are noisy, portrait mode edges are messy, and with no telephoto, zoom gets soft at 2x and unusable at 10x. The 16MP under-display selfie camera is the weakest part of the phone. That was easy to forgive at $649. At $899 it is harder.

The IP rating has an asterisk

RedMagic advertises IP68 and IP69 for the first time, which sounds like flagship-grade protection. The fine print says those ratings apply to the device, while “the cooling fan area is rated IPX8” because of its separate airflow channel. In plain English: the phone survives water, but the fan vents are not certified against dust. If you game at the beach or on a job site, keep that in mind.

Software support is the real weak spot

RedMagic OS 12 is cleaner than older versions, with fewer bugs and less leftover Chinese text, though it still ships with Booking.com, TikTok, Instagram, AliExpress and a few filler games preinstalled. The bigger issue is how long it will be supported.

Years of security updates promised RedMagic 12 Pro in the US: 3 years of security updates and 2 Android upgrades. RedMagic 12 Pro in Europe: 5 years. Google Pixel 11: 7 years. Samsung Galaxy S26: 7 years. How long will your phone get security patches? Promised years of security updates from launch RedMagic 12 Pro (US) 3 years RedMagic 12 Pro (EU) 5 years Google Pixel 11 7 years Samsung Galaxy S26 7 years RedMagic also promises only two major Android version upgrades for the 12 Pro.

For US buyers, three years of patches means the phone stops getting security fixes around late 2029. Compare that with a Pixel 11, which is selling for $699 right now ahead of Black Friday and gets seven years. That is $200 less for more than twice the support, though of course nothing like the RedMagic’s battery or cooling.

Buying tipIf you are set on the 12 Pro, register for the Early Bird window between November 12 and 17. The free 80W charger is worth having, because the box ships without one and you need a compatible fast charger to get anywhere near the advertised charging speed.

    Frequently asked questions

When does the RedMagic 12 Pro go on sale?

Early Bird orders open on November 17, 2026, and open sales start globally on November 18, including the US, UK, Europe and Australia.

How much does the RedMagic 12 Pro cost?

It starts at $899 for 12GB and 256GB. The 16GB and 512GB model is $999 and the 16GB and 1TB model is $1,199.

Is the RedMagic 12 Pro the same as the RedMagic 12 Pro+?

Mostly. The 12 Pro+ is the Chinese version. The main difference is wired charging: 120W in China versus 80W on the global 12 Pro.

Is the RedMagic 12 Pro waterproof?

It carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for the body, but the cooling fan area is only rated IPX8, meaning it is protected against water but not certified for dust.

How many updates will the RedMagic 12 Pro get?

Two major Android upgrades. Security updates last five years in Europe and three years in the US.

Is the RedMagic 12 Pro better than the RedMagic 11 Pro?

Yes, on battery, screen and graphics performance. It is not $250 better for most people, and it scored lower than the 11 Pro on sustained performance stability in early testing.

Bottom lineThe RedMagic 12 Pro is still the most specialized gaming phone you can buy, with the best battery life in its class and a screen built for play. But RedMagic’s appeal was always about value, and $899 puts it close to mainstream flagships that take far better photos and get years more updates. Hardcore mobile gamers will love it. Everyone else should either hunt down a discounted 11 Pro or wait for the first price cut.
